What am I giving up by signing a release?
Whatever the release describes, usually including claims you do not know about yet. The scope sentence is the whole document; everything else is formality.
Does an affidavit have to be notarised?
Generally yes, because the point of one is that it was sworn. Who may take the oath and what the notary must record are local rules, and a filing office will reject a form that misses them.
Is a bill of sale necessary if I already have a receipt?
A receipt proves payment. A bill of sale records what was sold, in what condition, and that title passed. For anything that gets registered later, the second is the one that is asked for.
